Boksburg North SAPS: Suspect caught with stolen loot

The following cases were reported at Boksburg North SAPS.

Possession of stolen property

Boksburg North SAPS members were doing patrols in Main Street, Anderbolt, when they noticed a suspicious male sitting next to a wheelbarrow with a plastic crate in it, on February 6, around 6am.

They asked the man where he got these items from and, according to Coetzer, he could not answer them.

“They opened the crate and found a lot of electrical equipment,” she explained.

They arrested him on a charge of possession of possible stolen goods.

“When they arrived at the Boksburg North Police Station, they heard that there was a business break-in just around the corner from where they found the man.”

The description of the stolen electrical equipment matched the found goods exactly.

Housebreaker arrested

The complainant was inside his house, when he noticed that his motor gate was open, on February 1, around 9.15am.

He went outside and saw an unknown person on his property, carrying a bag.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the complainant shouted at the person, requesting him to stop.

“The suspect dropped the bag and fled out of his yard. The complainant picked up the bag and noticed that it contained some of his possessions,” she said.

The complainant and his friend drove around the area to see if they could find the suspect.

After a while they came across a security vehicle and the complainant recognised the suspect in the vehicle with the security officer.

They called Boksburg North SAPS and the suspect was arrested.

Cable thieves nabbed

Two security officers, who specifically look out for cable thieves, were patrolling along Sett Street, Witfield, when they noticed suspects digging out cables, on January 1, around 1.10am.

They drove past and the driver dropped off his colleague on the corner.

“He walked through the veld towards the suspects and caught three suspects busy digging a seven-metre cable out of the ground,” said Coetzer.

The SAPS were called and the three suspects were arrested.

The cable was handed in at Boksburg North SAPS and identified as Ekurhuleni property.

Theft of motor vehicle

The complainant arrived home and parked her vehicle outside in front of the motor gate, on February 2.

According to Coetzer, she got out to open the gate while her vehicle was idling.

“When she turned around, there were three males asking her where the train station is,” said Coetzer.

“When she replied, they jumped into her vehicle and drove off.”

The complainant and some of her workers got into another vehicle and gave chase.

They found the vehicle, which had stopped, and two suspects jumped out and fled.

They managed to apprehend one suspect. The suspect was arrested on a charge of theft of motor vehicle.

“People must be vigilant and not create an opportunity for criminals,” said Coetzer.

“When you want to open the gate, the only way is to stop and switch off the vehicle and take the keys out of the ignition.

“Also, be vigilant when you drive into your area and your street. Look for suspicious people walking along your street or the route you are driving to your house.”

Coetzer advised to rather drive around the block, before going straight to your house.
