Metro denies R600 fraud at Boksburg licensing department

The Ekurhuleni Metro have denied a claim that an employee was involved in a R600 fraud.

This is after a Boksburg resident complained to the Advertiser that she was robbed of an amount of R600 at the Boksburg Licensing Department, on January 3.

She had gone there to register a vehicle and upon arriving, was approached by one of the people who were sitting on the two benches near the entrance to the building.

The said person offered to help fill in the forms, which he then took to Counter Two for payment.

“I was under the impression that this particular person, is employed at the traffic department,” she told the Advertiser.

The said person then returned with the stamped forms and handed them over to her, before leaving.

When she proceeded to the next counter, she was informed that there was a problem with the forms.

She found out that though the forms had been stamped, no payment was made whatsoever.

At that stage, the person who helped her was nowhere to be seen.

Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the metro knows of this complaint and “thought it was resolved already”.

“The complainant came in to our licensing department office to complain that a runner took R600 from her cousin,” said Gadebe.

“She said their documents were submitted to our employee who was working behind the counter, where R600 was paid. The claim was found to be not true. She said the documents were returned to them afterwards.”

Gadebe said their investigation revealed that the two paid a runner R600 for the roadworthy of their vehicle, which was done through that runner.

“When their documents went through the BPM, they were rejected because of an affidavit. Somehow they assumed that since they paid R600, all was well.”

Gadebe said the runner was called and he confirmed that he only helped them with a roadworthy as per their request, which was cleared with the lady.

“When they were leaving the office, the complainant told the officials that she was happy with the explanation and she was going to come back, to resubmit the documents the next day.

“On our records we don’t have any evidence about the money the two are said to have paid. We request anyone with information about corruption and irregularities in our offices, to contact us.
