Reiger Park Karate Academy wins three gold in Durban

The Reiger Park Karate Academy bagged three gold medals at the recently held Durban Championship Games.

The academy won a total of five medals, including two silver medals.

Academy sensei, Deon Isaks, led by example as he picked up two gold medals in kata and kumite.

The championships also saw three of the total seven students who travelled to Durban graded. Micah Jansen was awarded an orange belt while Jada Kivido and Tyler Hansrod were awarded the yellow belt.

The academy will also be celebrating its first birthday next month having begun in October 2015.

It’s affiliated with the International Federation of Funakoshi Shotokan Karate South Africa (IFFSKSA) under the leadership of president and world instructor Kyoshi Eric Govender, 7th dan.

A statement from the academy read as follows.

“We are trying by all means our best to provide an alternative sport for children in Reiger Park. Many of our youngsters want to participate in soccer, rugby and cricket, however we believe karate is an alternative sport for children. We also provide tuition at an affordable fee.”
