Court briefs: Burglars, thieves convicted

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

*Lindo Kuhle Nhlahlo (21), of Vosloorus, was convicted of housebreaking and theft on August 22.

He pleaded guilty, and was found guilty on July 11.

On February 14, the accused broke into the property of Prudence Phoswa, in Vosloorus Extension Four, and stole clothes worth R1 800.

On May 25, the accused also stole three blankets from Tesson Nhlahlo.

He has no previous convictions and the court sentenced him to 18 months correctional supervision.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.

* Themba Gcaba (49), of Vosloorus Extension Eight, was convicted of domestic violence on August 22.

He pleaded not guilty on June 14, but the court found him guilty as charged on the same day.

On March 27, 2007, a protection order directing and prohibiting him from entering a specific section of the house and assaulting or threatening Thokozile Gcaba was issued against him.

He, however, disobeyed the order when, on January 9, he threatened to kill Thokozile.

The accused has a previous conviction of assault in 1992.

He was sentenced to 18 months correctional supervision.

* Jabu Dladla (24), of Phumula Gardens, in Vosloorus, was convicted of trespassing and possession of housebreaking implements on August 24.

The accused pleaded not guilty, but the court found him guilty as charged.

On July 6, the accused unlawfully and intentionally entered the premises of Masithulisane High School, in Vosloorus.

He was found in possession of housebreaking implements.

He has two previous convictions for theft, in 2007 and 2015, and one for housebreaking, in 2014.

He was sentenced to two years for trespassing and three years for possession of housebreaking implements.

The court ordered that the sentences run consecutively.

* Nhlanhla Mofokeng (25), of Vosloorus was convicted of assault and theft, on August 23.

The accused pleaded guilty on July 12 and was found guilty as charged.

On May 11, he unlawfully and intentionally assaulted Emmanuel Selepe and took his cellphone, worth R500.

The accused has two previous convictions for theft, in 2015.

* John Ross van Staden (25), of Rietfontein Road, was convicted of theft on August 19.

The accused pleaded guilty and was found guilty as charged.

On June 25, he stole one silver tissue holder and two plastic screens,valued at R700, from Pam Centre .

The accused was sentenced to three months in jail or a fine of R3 000, which was suspended for five years.

Magistrate Hans Havenga presided and prosecutor Palesa Setshedi represented the state.

* Yvonne Maria Tivane (31), of Mozambique, was convicted of theft on August 18.

She pleaded guilty and was found guilty as charged.

The accused unlawfully and intentionally stole shoes valued at R899.95 from Woolworths, on May 28.

She has four previous convictions for theft, in 2011, 2013, and 2014.

The accused was sentenced to two years in prison and has been declared unfit to possess a firearm.

* Thabo Bodile (29), of Vosloorus, was convicted of housebreaking and theft on August 24.

The accused pleaded not guilty on August 11, but the court found him guilty as charged.

He broke into the property of Lebogang Thubela and stole packets of Simba chips and nuts valued at R600.

He has previous convictions of assault, robbery and housebreaking and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
