Hotrod world champ to rock The Rock

The Rock Raceway venue is going to be a hive of motor sport activity on August 12 to 14 for the annual Speed Weekend Festival.

TIreland international and 2016 hot rod world champion Adam Maxwell will be flying to the country to take on some local hot rod drivers around the 400m tar circuit at The Rock.

Qualifying and practice sessions for the big event will start on Friday from 9am to 9pm, and continue on Saturday starting from 9am.

The main event takes place from 4pm.

With over 30 entries to the starting line, top names like Neville Loosemore from Richards Bay, Okert Britz, Rudi Myburg and Nico Vorster will also be track-side in their hot rod chariots to do battle.

The festival will also see over 17 rotary-powered versus piston-powered super midgets together on the track at the same time – a first for The Rock.

Categories also racing on the day will include Kids in Racing SA Ninja Class (ages 3-12 years old); 100cc Micro Midgets, 125 Karts, 1600 Stockrods, 1660 Modified Saloons, Formula 2 Midgets, Formula N Circuit, Super Midgets, V8 Lexus, V8 Flexi Class, Outlaw V8 Sprints, 2.1-litre Modified Saloons, 2-litre Pinto Class and Super Saloons.

Competitors from all over South Africa will be making their way to race in this event, including drivers from Cape Town, KZN, Polokwane, The Free State, Vaal Triangle and Gauteng.

* Sunday

Bandit Racing Heads up Street 2 Strip drags will take place on Sunday. All car clubs have been called out for this event. Trophy night is up for grabs for the best supported car club. Gates open at 3pm and the drag races will start an hour later.
