Blues held to draw at home

The Boksburg Football Club and ELFA Super League opponents Highlands Park played to a one-all draw at the Boksburg City Stadium on Saturday.

The Blues were looking to continue their recent winning run following a slow start to the season in the May 6 encounter, and they were well on their way when Aiden Lemmetjies gave them the lead to open the game’s scoring.

The complexion of the game was changed early into the second-half, however, as Boksburg’s Thawanda Muzakabani was red-carded, receiving his marching orders.

Highlands sought to take advantage and they rallied before their continued pressure finally told when they got the equalising goal midway through the second half.

The visitors kept on the pressure following their goal with their ball retention game starving the Blues of possession.

There would be no further goals by either side, however, and the absorbing encounter petered out to a stalemate.

“I think it’s a great result,” said Blues mentor Brennan Peters.

“They (Highlands) are one of the top teams in the league and we played with 10 men for 38 minutes of the game.”

The Blues return to their City Stadium home ground this Saturday where they will welcome Luso Africa.
