The community of the Ramaphosa informal settlement came in large numbers on Friday, February 26, to support and be part of the cleaning project initiated by the metro.
Activities on the day included the cleaning of an identified illegal dumping hot spot near the Ramaphosa taxi rank.
Community members were given brooms, face masks, gloves and refuse collection bags to execute the task.
Officials from the Department of Transport, EMPD, Water and Energy and the Waste Department took part in the cleaning of Ramaphosa.
Emma Shai, who participated in the campaign, said: “I am cleaning this area not for someone else, but for myself, because our children get sick from the unhygienic place we live in.
“Such a community effort will keep Ramaphosa clean”.
Lydia Joubert, customer relations manager at the Boksburg Customer Care Centre, said: “We have dedicated our time to clean Ramaphosa in order to motivate the residents to continue to love their environment.”
