Rademeyer dynasty expands on the fitness model stage

Freeway Park fitness model Charmaine Rademeyer was crowned the IBFF South African champion, at the IBFF South African Championships, held at Wits University, recently.

Rademeyer (46) secured the win – her first this year in her over-40 division – after being judged on evening wear, bikini fitness, overall symmetry and fitness appearance.

The SA champion will move on to compete in the IBFF Universe Championships, in Bari, Italy, from October 18, as part of Team South Africa.

Other events in which she’s competed this year include the IFBB Boksburg Classic, where she placed sixth in the over-35 division, and the IFBB Provincials, where she finished fifth – also in the over-35 division.

The two IFBB appearances earned her an invitation to the IBFF SA Champs.

“The win and being chosen for the SA team was beyond my wildest expectations,” said the mother of two.

“I started competing only two years ago and never expected to reach this level. Many of the competitions don’t have age categories and it’s tougher for women over 40 to compete against the younger girls.

“I, unfortunately, wasn’t able to compete much this year, as I had a double hernia repair in March and was out for three months.

“It’s been a tough road trying to get back to pre-operation form and I took things slowly, gradually working on overall fitness. I was allowed to start doing ab exercises only in July and it will still take a while to get back to my previous form.

“In August I only starte competing again.”

Asked how she remains motivated, Charmaine, who’s a sister in-law to NABBA-WFF Miss Universe Cat Buys Rademeyer, responded: “My greatest motivation is definitely my children and then just being an inspiration to women over 40, and all ages in fact.

“You are never too old to start something new and must never allow adversity to break you down. Just stay focused and know that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.” – @SabeloBoksburg
