Fake cops rob police of firearms, car keys

Two Boksburg police officers learned the hard way yesterday afternoon to always remain alert.

This is after bogus cops caught them off guard, and stole their firearms and car keys.

The fake cops tricked the officers into thinking that they were colleagues by sounding a police siren.

According to a spokesperson for the Boksburg SAPS, Kwendzakwakhe Ngobse, the robbers (fake cops) initially attacked a civilian, who was at the time driving in a Ford Fiesta along Rondebult Road, Parkdene, before the police’s ordeal unfolded.

“The two thugs, driving in a vehicle described as a charcoal VW Golf equipped with a police siren, opened fire on the Ford Fiesta and hit the windscreen and the boot, forcing the driver to stop his car,” said Ngobse.

“The robbers then confronted the driver and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash and his car keys.”

That’s when the two approaching Boksburg plain-clothes police officers, driving in an unmarked vehicle, noticed that something untoward was happening and proceed to the scene.

However, the wailing police sirens on the thugs’ vehicle fooled the officers into believing that help had already arrived.

They, therefore, thought they were merely at the scene to act as backup.

To their great surprise, they found themselves staring down the barrels of guns, when the thugs stuck pistols in their faces, demanding their belongings.

The robbers then robbed the officers before fleeing the scene.

Two 9mm cartridges and two R5 assault rifle magazines were recovered, but no arrests have been made so far.
