East Rand United prove too strong for Elsburg

East Rand United ran in nine tries in a 61-12 massacre of Elsburg, in their Merlin Rugby League clash, in Reiger Park, on Saturday, June 13.

The home side took a healthy 26-0 lead into the half-time break and never looked back.

United, whose quickly recycled ball and running game has proven difficult for the opposition, have been playing scintillating rugby and carried through their momentum from their win against Sasolburg.

It was no different against Elsburg, who looked hapless as United ran riot and conceded only two tries in the process.

Derrick Sampson’s men ran at every opportunity which presented itself, a ploy which yielded multiple scoring opportunities of which Dominique Jonkers, Dustin Losch, Clayton Gindon, Alvandre Maart, Jonathan Botha (c) and Gamat Ndanda took advantage, as they all dotted down for tries.

Ndanda led the onslaught with his hat-trick of tries while Maart finished with a brace.

Elsburg duo Shaun Loots and Louis Boucher scored the consolation tries for their side, with Michael Buys converting one of them.

United next host Kempton Park, on Saturday, June 27, before meeting with Benoni on July 11.

Scorers:

ER United: tries: Gamat Ndanda (3), Alvandre Maart (2); Dominique Jonkers, Dustin Losch, Clayton Gindan, Jonathan Botha.
