Senzo’s case, more questions than answers

The investigation into former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain Senzo Meyiwa’s murder is progressing.

This is according to national police spokesperson Lieut-Gen Solomon Makgale.

Despite media reports to the contrary, Makgale told the Advertiser that the investigation is going well and he is confident that detectives appointed to deal with the case will make a breakthrough soon.

Meyiwa was shot and killed at the family home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo, last year, in what has been described as a robbery gone wrong.

According to other media reports, an officer with knowledge of the case said there is no progress in this case, with police resorting to guesswork.

Makgale, however, refuted the claims that detectives have bungled the investigation and are now resorting to guesswork.

“We know that people are saying a lot of different things, but they are unable to substantiate their claims. The fact is, the investigation is ‘going very well’.

“The appointed investigators are doing everything possible to ensure that the people who killed Senzo are arrested,” said Makgale

“I understand that the public want to know what is happening about the investigation, but we can’t divulge anything about it, because investigators have advised us not to reveal too much information.

“We will only share such information at the right time, when we have reached a point we believe it is necessary to update the nation.

Last year, police arrested Vosloorus resident Zamokuhle Mbatha, who, they believed, was the murderer, but the case was thrown out of court due to a lack of evidence against him.
