Tommy tips Muller to beat Lerena

Former IBO light-heavyweight champion Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen has downplayed wide claims that Kevin Lerena will prove too strong for his stable mate Johnny ‘The Hurricane’ Muller in their cruiserweight clash this weekend at Emperors Palace.

According to the Golden Gloves website, Oosthuizen believes Muller won’t buckle under Lerena’s sheer power.

“I hit harder than Kevin Lerena and Johnny has taken it just fine,” said the charismatic Oosthuizen, in a response to the suggestion that Lerena might have too much firepower for his sparring partner.

“Johnny is in good shape; Kevin best be ready because Johnny will be there. I hope for his sake he can control The Hurricane.

“Johnny takes my shots and we’ve really been going at each other; it’s been fun. It’s wonderful working with him, he’s always there for me,” added the lanky southpaw.

“Kevin doesn’t hit as hard as me. If Johnny doesn’t let his temper get the better of him, I can’t see a problem. He’ll drag Kevin into deep water, Kevin has never fought anyone as gutsy as Johnny.”

Muller (16-4-2, 12 KOs) will be looking to put his recent loss against Doudou Ngumbu behind him by claiming his 17th professional victory while Lerena (11-0, 7 KOs) will be out to protect his unbeaten record.

The tournament is scheduled to commence at 7.30pm. – @SabeloBoksburg
