Thieving couple caught out – court news in brief

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Jane Langa (26), from Alexandra, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

She pleaded guilty and was found guilty on August 8 and sentenced on October 9 to six months imprisonment.

On July 24, the accused stole clothing from Edgars, to the value of R5 542.

Magistrate Emmanuelle Magampa presided over the matter and Angeline Mooiman appeared on behalf of the State.

* Ellen Khoza (63), from Dobsonville, and Thamsaqa Mavuzo (49), from Soweto, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

They pleaded guilty and were found guilty on October 2 and sentenced on October 9 to R3 000 or six months imprisonment, with a further six months suspended for five years.

On August 22, the duo stole taps from Builders Warehouse, to the value of R10 901.

Magistrate Emmanuelle Magampa presided over the matter and Angeline Mooiman appeared on behalf of the State.

* Thabo Motlhabi (37), from Vosloorus, appeared in court on a charge of murder, which was reduced to culpable homicide.

He pleaded not guilty on September 8, was found guilty and sentenced on October 13 to five years imprisonment.

On February 9, the accused killed Katlego Mokomi by hitting him with a bottle.

He had previous convictions of possession of an unlicensed firearm in 2000 and a house break-in in 2005.

Magistrate Sijren Harichand presided over the matter and Leon Naude appeared on behalf of the State.

* Siyabonga Nkosi (26), from Katlehong, appeared in court on a charge of theft.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on September 2 and sentenced on October 10 to 18 months imprisonment, of which 12 months was suspended for five years.

On August 28, the accused stole 24 units of chewing gum from Boxers Supermarket.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided over the matter and Themba Maluleke appeared on behalf of the State. – @CarmenBoksburg
