Mother tried to save son from hijackers

The family of Taegrin Morris (four-year old) who was killed on Saturday (July 19) when his body was dragged in a moving car by hijackers, has confirmed that his mother Chantel Morris did try and save him.

Family spokesperson Michael Kotaan says the mother attempted to take the child out of the car before he was dragged, hanging from the seatbelt out of the hijacked car, from Reiger Park, to Boksburg.

“She pleaded with the suspects to allow her to take the child out of his car seat. As she tried pulling him, the buckle got jammed, and the hijackers closed the door and sped off,” explains Kotaan.

Kotaan says there are clues as to who the suspects are, and they are said to be members of the community of Reiger Park.

He also adds that the mother will undergo counseling.

“We are hoping to arrange counseling for her in this week because this is a very traumatic experience,” he adds.

Kotaan says a memorial service will be held for Taegrin on Thursday, July 24 at the Reiger Park Civic Centre at 7pm. See original story.
