Violent robbers escape with R700 000 worth of goods

A Sunward Park family had to endure a moment of hell, when a heavily-armed gang of about five men stormed their house.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Kwendzakwakhe Ngobese, the robbers armed with one R5 rifle and pistols, stormed the victim’s house just before 6pm, on Saturday night, July 5.

Ngobese says it all started in the driveway, where the victim was confronted by the robbers who were driving in a white Golf six.

“They asked the victim to open the window of his Mercedes Benz while in his driveway, but he refused. They then broke the driver’s window and roughly tossed him out of the vehicle, before dragging him into the house, where he and his family were then held at gunpoint for a few minutes.

The robbers stole meat from the fridge, cellphones, a TV set and other undisclosed goods, before they drove away in the victim’s Mercedes Benz and their Golf.

Ngobese says the value of stolen items was estimated at R 700 000.

The victims were lucky to have escaped an R5 rifle bullet, after the robbers fired one shot inside the house.

The father suffered bruising to his face and head during the incident.

No arrests have been made so far, and the stolen goods including the vehicle have not yet been recovered.

According to the SAPS, the robbers are clearly not only organising mass raids, but they have also become heavily-armed and violent.

Boksburg homes seem to have become soft targets for robbers, and the spate of armed robberies is getting fiercer.

This incident happened barely three days after armed robbers attacked two families in Freeway Park and stole goods worthy thousands of rands.

Also in these cases, the suspects are still at large.

Residents of Sunward Park have in the past, during a community meeting expressed grave concern about the increasing spate of armed robberies in their neighbourhoods.

Community leaders have asked members of the communities, police and the metro to join hands and fight against the ever-growing number of crimes in Boksburg.

  1. I blame this fully on the police. They don’t do enough to conquer crime and it’s their firearms they using. R5 rifles are only utilised in the Army and the police. I believe the police are involved in many crimes involving drugs, highjacking syndicates and armed robbery’s.

  2. The same thing happened here by us in Witfield last Friday. Only difference was the robbers had a white Mercedes like a new A or new B class.
