Brogan slowly recovering

Boksburg resident, Brogan Mahony, who was assaulted on his birthday is slowly recovering at Midstream Medical Centre, Midrand.

This is according to his mother Xavier Mahony.

Brogan was found by paramedics at 3am, on Commissioner Street, after he was brutally attacked and left unconscious on his 26th birthday, December 14.

It is thought he had been attacked during the night.

He was rushed to Glynnwood Hospital in Benoni, with severe head injuries, resulting from allegedly being beaten with a brick on the head, which was found at the scene.

At that time, neurosurgeon Dr Enrico Branca, who is the doctor in the Neuro Ward where Brogan was being treated, confirmed that Brogan is brain damaged.

Brogan was later transferred to Midstream Medical Centre where his mother, Xavier, says he may need months to get back to recover.

“He is slowly recovering and he can now talk and eat,” says Xavier.

“We do not know when he might be discharged, as he is unable to walk on his own yet. It is a difficult situation to cope with as a single parent, but there is nothing I can do. I always pray and hope for the best.”

According to Xavier, although her son doesn’t always talk clearly enough, she can make out what he is saying.

“I’m not sure if he can recall the attack, but I suggest that the police visit him in hospital and try to get details of what happened.”

The Boksburg police say the matter is still being investigated.

After details of the horrifying assault were published in the Advertiser, police say they have received new information from the community around the incident.

The police believe they are on the trail of Brogan Mahony’s attackers.

“Our detectives are following up positive lines of inquiry and detectives are still to analyse a video footage to be obtained from a business situated next to the crime scene,” says Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Lieut Kwenzakwakhe Ngobese.
