Are you looking for something fun to do with the kids today? Why not try to make a firefly from a recycled soda or water bottle? This craft is easy to make and thrifty, requiring only a handful of art and craft supplies.
What you’ll need:
Recyclable Plastic Water Bottles / Empty Soda Bottles
- Glow Sticks
- Tissue Paper
- Cardboard
- Pipe Cleaners
- Googly Eyes
- Mod Podge or Glue Stick
- Sticky Tape
- Foam
- Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Foam Sheets
How to make it
- Cut 1-inch strips out of a sheet of coloured tissue paper.
- Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the centre of a soda bottle.
- Wrap the Mod Podge-covered tissue paper strips around the bottle.
- Apply a second layer of Mod Podge to the tissue strips.
- Wrap three pipe cleaners around the centre of the bottle, on top of the tissue strips, once dry. To make the legs, twist each one around the bottom.
- Cut two wing shapes from a foam sheet. Attach them to the top of the bottle with a glue gun.
- Insert the glow stick into the bottle.
- Glue a pair of googly eyes to the bottle cap, then wrap another pipe cleaner around the bottle’s neck to make an antenna.
- Your child’s pop bottle firefly is finished!
