Best in Bollywood takes centre stage

The show features songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s.

THE Playhouse Company presents the Nateshwar Dance Company in Bollywood Song and Dance, on November 19 and 20 at the Playhouse Drama Theatre. The breathtaking show pays homage to the wonderful tradition of the Indian Cinema Industry.

This production will showcase the very cream of the Nateshwar Dance Company, under dance doyenne, Smeetha Maharaj. It will be anchored by popular radio presenter and Bollywood aficionado, Varshan Sookhun.

The production is designed and directed by Rakesh Maharaj. Bollywood Song and Dance features 12 dancers in elaborate costumes who will perform to the six-piece Tansen Nepaul Showband and vocalist, Umita Kalyan.

It features Bollywoood songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s, with popular hits from each era highlighted in various medleys. 

The Nateshwar Dance Academy specialises in the North Indian classical style of dance, Kathak, as well as in various folk dances of India.

Bollywood Song and Dance is the opening production for the Playhouse’s Christmas season. Traditionally a time of family, whimsy, laughter and fun, pantos and ballet, song and dance.

The Playhouse Company presents a full and fantastic festive season with a fabulous selection of theatrical treats to be staged over the year-end holidays. The Playhouse, an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, and is known as the province’s premier theatre complex, has produced a carefully-curated programme of old school nostalgia, with a contemporary twist.

The show starts at 18:00 on both days and tickets can be purchased at R100 via Webtickets at www.webtickets.co.za or at selected select Pick ‘n Pay outlets.
