R350 recipients urged to wait for SMS before collecting grant

The SA Post Office warned that the grant money will not be available if recipients try to collect it before they have received an SMS.

COVID-19 social relief of distress (SRD) grant recipients are urged to wait for an SMS informing them that their money is available before lining up.

The SA Post Office released a statement after noticing that a large number of people try to collect their R350 SRD grants at post offices, Boxer and Pick n Pay stores without a confirmation SMS.

SAPO spokesperson, Johan Kruger said beneficiaries who have received the SMS and choose to withdraw their grant from a Pick ‘n Pay or Boxer supermarket, must also have their cell phones and identity document with them.

“The grant will not be available if you try to collect it before you have received an SMS,” warned Kruger.

For beneficiaries who chose a bank account or cash send as their payment method, Kruger advised that that those people will receive the money through the bank they chose, and they cannot go to one of the supermarkets.

According to Kruger, only beneficiaries who chose to receive their grants from the post office have the option of also collecting the grant from Pick ‘n Pay or Boxer.

“The first week of every month is set aside for paying our old age, disability and child grants. During this week, SRD R350 grants cannot be paid out,” he said.
