CROW takes in jackal pup rescued from veldfire

The side-striped jackal was the only survivor of three pups.

THE Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) recently received a jackal pup that was rescued after a fire tore through its den in Zululand.

The centre has called on the community to step in and help them care for the abandoned pup. CROW took to its Facebook page to share the news on Monday, October 18.

“Meet Umlilo. She is a side-striped jackal pup that was rescued in Zululand. Unfortunately, she was the only survivor of three pups that made it out the veldfire that ran right over her den. Umlilo means fire, which seemed a perfect fit for her name. She has been in our care for two weeks now and is doing exceptionally well. She loves to keep herself busy with her chew toys and feathers,” read the post.

CROW’s monthly sponsorship system includes several levels: wildlife junior (R25), wildlife recruit (R75), wildlife rescuer (R150), wildlife protector (R300) and wildlife warrior (R500).

“You can sponsor Umlilo’s care for just R25 a month, all the way up to R500 a month,” explained the post.
