City to close all beaches due to predicted heavy downpours

eThekwini Mayor, Mxolisi Kaunda has mobilised law enforcement personnel to enforce compliance with this notice.

WITH inclement weather forecast for this weekend, August 28 and 29, the City has taken the decision to close all beaches.

According to the City, swimming, surfing, fishing, canoeing, and other related activities are therefore prohibited this weekend.

“The public is urged to adhere to this notice for their safety. Activities such as jogging, walking, running, yoga and other exercises are allowed. The decision to close beaches may be reviewed depending on weather conditions. The public will be notified accordingly,” Kaunda said.

Meanwhile beaches north of the uMngeni River are also closed due to a toxic chemical spill from the UPL warehouse in Cornubia more than a month ago.
