Make lemonade squash with your kids

Making homemade lemonade together is a fun way to spend time with your kids, all you need are a few ingredients.

With the last days of summer ahead of us, why not spend the upcoming weekend making lemonade squash with the kids? The best thing about this recipe is that you can customise it to suit your family’s taste – and cut down on the sugar.

Try your hand at this yummy lemonade squash recipe that you can make with your kids.

Ingredients:

  • Juice of 6 large lemons
  • ½ cup boiling water
  • 500g sugar
  • 1 tablespoon tartaric acid

Method:

  1. Make a syrup with the sugar and the water by pouring the water onto the sugar and stirring until it dissolves.
  2. Add the lemon juice and the tartaric acid, and mix.
  3. Bottle and keep in the fridge. Mix with cold water to taste when you serve it.
  4. If you like your squash to be sour, add a bit of citric acid.

Top tips

  • Bottle the syrup in pretty glass bottles and give them to your friends or child’s teachers as gifts.
  • Freeze the squash in lollipop moulds for an icy treat.
  • Add some fresh slices of lemon to the sides of the glasses when serving, or a few mint leaves.
