FOR almost 30 years, The Winston Pub has been committed to the local music scene, supporting bands from across the country, and offering a stage to international acts.

With the current Covid-19 pandemic threatening to close the popular venue down for good, a campaign to save beloved Winnie has been launched in a desperate attempt to keep her alive.

The unfortunate decline of the South African music scene over the past few years has challenged the commitment of the current owners Matthew and Luke, who both took up second jobs months ago to help keep the doors open.

“The Winston is too important to too many and to the overall music scene to just let go,” explained Matt Olivier, adding that the current shut-down may be the final nail in the coffin without the help from friends and patrons.

“Even with the doors shut, the venue still carries costs: utilities, rental, and staff wages. We want to be able to support our beloved Winston team and keep their families fed throughout this crisis, but our incomes are just not enough to meet all the needs. We understand that times are tough everywhere but we are appealing to anyone who is able to help, to support the #KeepTheWinstonAlive campaign and make a difference.
