American jazz saxophonist in concert

The Centre for Jazz and Popular Music welcomes back Ernest Dawkins on Wednesday, 12 February.

LEGENDARY American jazz saxophonist, Ernest Dawkins, returns to the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music in concert on Wednesday, 12 February at 6pm.

Dawkins, 66, is an award winning composer whose life goal is for his music and compositions to reflect the evolving collective cultural memory of the African American jazz aesthetic.

The Chicago-born artist has a long archived history of linking his music to struggle activism.

Dawkins is currently in residence at the Rebuild Foundation, directing the AACM’s Great Black Music Ensemble every first Sunday of the month at The Stony Island Arts Bank.

Join Ernest Dawkins (saxophone) with Neil Gonsalves on piano, Dalisu Ndlazi on bass, and Stanley Motlou on drums at the Centre for Jazz and Popular music (CJPM), Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus.

Doors open at 5.30pm. Tickets are R90, R60 for pensioners and R30 for students.
