First lady of folk performs at Tina’s

Mim Erasmus will perform songs from her album Over Africa.

RHUMBELOW Theatre Tina’s Hotel, Kloof presents Over Africa – the making of a legend with Mim Erasmus from Friday, 31 January to Sunday, 2 February.

Known in Durban as “Mim”, worldwide, she is known as Miriam Backhouse and Miriam Erasmus, one of the most loved and admired singer-songwriters of her generation.
As Miriam Backhouse, in the 70s she was established as England’s “First Lady of Folk” having starred at many folk clubs and festivals including the prestigious Cambridge and Edinburgh Festivals. She paved the way for other women to take up the mantle of professional folk singer, and many credit her with being the inspiration for their presentation style.

Arriving in South Africa in 1977, as Miriam Erasmus, she began writing songs about the beauty and tragedies of life in South Africa during the 80s. These songs became part of the album Over Africa, and, now are a part of our rich heritage of music and language.

The show is at 8pm on Friday and Saturday and at 2pm on Sunday.
