Jazz vocalist performs at UKZN

Nombuso Ratsha is a jazz vocalist, composer and arranger and has been a member of the UKZN Big band for over two years.

THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents final year jazz vocalist Nombuso Ratsha live on Friday, 16 August at 7pm.

Nombuso Ratsha is a jazz vocalist, composer and arranger. She will be performing various jazz standards, combining jazz with other genres such as opera, and her own compositions.

Nombuso Ratsha will be joined by Freeman Gumede (bass), Lesedi Tlholoe (drums), Sihle Mkhize and Ayanda Mfiki (piano), Boy Mokhatla, Andiswa Maduna, Mbuso Nxumalo (UKZN choir’s music director), Nomthandazo Madiya and Menzi Cele on vocals, also with special guest Dr Christopher Cockburn on piano, and opera students Phila Mashabane and Luxolo Mahlasela.

The Centre for Jazz and Popular music is at Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. Doors open at 6pm. Ticket will be sold at R60 at the door.
