Cape soprano for Baroque recital

The concert features the exceptional Cape Town prodigy - soprano, Lynelle Kenned.

BAROQUE 2000’s fourth concert of the series will take place on Sunday, 30 June, at the Church of the Mariannhill Monastery, at 3pm.

The concert features soprano, Lynelle Kenned – who will perform some of the jewel arias of the operatic repertoire by Handel: Tornami from Alcina, Ritorna o caro from Rodelinda and the moving Lascia ch’io pianga from Rinaldo. She will also interpret one aria from Johann Sebastan Bach’s Cantata 51: Hochster.

The orchestra will explore some orchestral works by Purcell (dances from Purcell’s Fairy Queen as well as some from Handel’s Alcina). Refiloe Olifant will be the violinist to perform the Sonata No3 Op1 by composer Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-Georges who was born in the French colony of Guadeloupe. He was brought to France by his father and became a champion fencer. He is best remembered as the first classical composer of African ancestry.
