UKZN jazz teacher, Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane’s third album release Closer to Home, has been nominated for a South African Music Award (SAMA) in the category ‘Best Jazz Album’.
Mashiloane said: “I am honoured to be nominated amongst such brilliant musicians. I released this album so I can use my music as a tool to tell the stories from my South African community. Getting a SAMA nomination encourages me to write more music that is “Closer to Home.”

The album features a mix of established names such as Kunle Ayo on guitar, Tlale Makhene on percussions and Paki Peloeole on drums, and gives space to young and upcoming musicians, such as Thabo Sikhakhane on trumpet and Thembinkosi Ngcobo on trombone.
