Raising funds through music

A fundraiser will be held for the Bluff Cat Lady.

FYNNLAND Sports Club will host a fundraiser for the Bluff Cat Lady, on Sunday, 2 December from 1pm.

For the past 40 years, Jean Jacobs has been working with cats on the Bluff that need food, shelter and/or medical treatment. She is a familiar sight, either in her little red car heading to another rescue, or striding along the beachfront in her daily battle to care for cats.

Jean feeds 69 cats daily – 36 in her cat shelter, 20 feral cats along the Bluff beaches, eight at the squatter camps at the end of Brighton Beach, and next to the dump, and five at the Wentworth Hospital Creche. This costs between R2 500 and R3 000 a month for food pellets, pets’ mince, rice and tinned food.

Jean relies on donations from the public and works alone collecting food, feeding cats, and arranging medical treatment where she can. She also runs a book stall at Buxton Village Centre every Saturday morning along with assistant, Jackie.

Entertainment at the fundraiser will be provided by The GP’S Choice (Gordon and Paul from local band Salty Dog), Fiona Tozer, Mark Hunt, Oscar Swanlund, Glen Winter. The musicians will perform free of charge. There will be raffle items to be won and a jumping castle will be provided for kids.

Glenys Theron will be there to do some face painting.

Entrance to the event is free, but donations are welcome. To book a table contact Fynnland Sports Club on 031 466 2010.

To offer donations or other assistance contact Errol “Smelly” Fellows on 078 264 9475.
