Avataar arrives at UKZN

Avataar's music marries jazz, rock, Indian classical music, groove traditions, and electronica.

THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music presents Canadian band Avataar on Wednesday, 26 September at 6pm.

Avataar as a band has been together for over 10 years. The current touring group includes saxophonist/flutist Sundar, vocalist Suba Sankaran, tabla maestro Ravi Naimpally, guitarist Michael Occhipinti, bassist George Koller and drummer Max Senitt. Collectively.

Together they combine jazz, rock, Indian classical, groove traditions and electronica to create rhythmic hypnotism, sonic landscapes and soaring melodies.

The Centre for Jazz and Popular music is at Level 2, Shepstone Building at UKZN Howard College Campus. Doors open at 5.30pm. Cost is R80, R50 for pensioners and R25 for students. Contact Thuli on 031 260 3385 or Zamat1@ukzn.ac.za.
