Musicians explore different worlds

Guy Buttery and Kanada Narahari bring India even closer to its well established home in South Africa.

DON’T miss Guy Buttery and Kanada Narahari in concert at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music on Wednesday, 9 May at 6pm.

Dr Kanada Narahari was born in a small village along the Western Ghats in Karnataka, India.

When he was just nine years old, Kanada enrolled to study Carnatic classical vocal and began to develop an interest in Hindustani Classical music with a particular passion for the sitar.

Today, Kanada is widely regarded as a prominent music therapist and has evolved into a highly accomplished sitar player performing through-out India, Nepal and South Africa.

As an internationally recognised musician, multi-instrumentalist, Guy Buttery, enjoys invitations to play sell-out performances all over the globe.

His international role has surpassed merely performing concerts to foreign audiences. It has evolved into one as an ambassador of South African music, inspiring people across the world with his homegrown style at the very heart of his talent and tenacity.

Together, Kanada Narahari and Guy Buttery bring a newfound gathering of these worlds creating something uniquely their own while simultaneously drawing from their respective traditions.
