Talented musicians for Friends recital

Performing at the recital will be the KZNPO’S new principal oboest Myfanwy Price who will be accompanied on piano by Durban’s popular Liezl-Maret Jacobs.

FRIENDS of Music Association presents its next recital featuring music for oboe and piano duo on 6 February at Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban at 7.30pm.

Performing at the recital will be the KZNPO’s new principal oboest Myfanwy Price who will be accompanied on piano by Durban’s popular Liezl-Maret Jacobs.

Myfanwy was born and raised in the United Kingdom and completed both her BMUS and her Masters’ Degrees at the Royal College of Music in London. As a passionate orchestral player, Myfanwy performed with a variety of orchestras in the UK at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Royal Albert Hall. She also greatly enjoys solo and chamber music performances. In 2017 Myfanwy moved to Durban to take up her current position as principal oboe of the KZNPO.

Liezl-Maret Jacobs obtained her D Mus at the University of Cape Town. Recognised as one of South Africa’s leading accompanists, she regularly performs at various venues in Durban, Stellenbosch, Pretoria and Bloemfontein. Liezl-Maret has given concerto performances with orchestras in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban and Stellenbosch.

Their programme includes David Heath’s The Sapphire, Henri Dutilleux’s Sonate, Johann Kalliwoda’s Morceau de Salon, Robert Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro, Maurice Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin, Eugène Bozza’s Fantaisie Pastorale, P?teris Vasks’ Pieskarieni and Antonio Pasculli’s La Favorita di Donizetti.

Prelude performer is Tyrell Pillay, a talented pianist who matriculated from Eden College last year.
Tickets are available at the door at R100 for members, R120 for visitors, and R20 for students.
