Pianist Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane at Centre for Jazz, UKZN

Mashiloane has been performing throughout the country and in Mozambique.

PIANIST and composer Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane is coming to his “home”, the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at Howard College, to perform music from his second album on Wednesday 7 February.

Mashiloane released his second album Rotha – A Tribute to Mama last year and has been performing throughout the country and in Mozambique. UKZN feels like home to the pianist since this is where he did his Masters and is a piano tutor.

His band will consist of jazz students bassist Dalisu Ndlazi and drummer Riley Giandhari, graduate Zoe The Seed Masuku on vocals and colleague tutor Dr. Sazi Dlamini on guitar. Rotha is inherently a tribute to Mashiloane’s cherished and influential figures, experiences and memories, but most importantly a tribute to his mother Rotha who passed in 2016, while he was in studio to record Rotha.

“I have a long-term view of conscientising Africans about the value of their own works and aim to breed a new decolonised generation of musicians, music collectors and live music audiences who will pride themselves about their own African heritage,” said Mashiloane.
