Craft brews for rescues

More than R200 000 was raised and donated to the Kloof and Highway SPCA from two sold-out events in 2016 and 2017.

TOPS Ales for Tails, a passionately-supported fundraiser where sponsors, home brewers, craft breweries and distilleries, musicians, vendors and volunteers pull together to support local animal shelters in KZN, will be held in aid of Project Dog and Sables Creatures on 3 February from 11am to 6pm at the Wavepark in Gateway.

More than R200 000 was raised and donated to the Kloof and Highway SPCA from two sold-out events in 2016 and 2017.

The festival is family-friendly and the water slides, inflatable park, splash water play area and Toddlers Zone will be open to kids at the normal entrance fee.

An extensive selection of drinks will be on offer, including 30 brews donated by 20 members of the Durban Hombrewers Association. These home brews are not available to purchase anywhere else and 100 per cent of the sales will go direct to the charities. Styles on offer include American Pale Ale, Irish Red Ale, Bohemian Lager, Pomaberry Cider and Belgian Blonde Ale, to name a few. There will also be a wine and cider bar.

Entertainment will be provided by I am Roarke (looper), Cameron David and James Chandler, A-Frame, The Lion and The Bear, Stone Palace, No Fly Zone and Templar Funk.

The Wavepark restaurant and various vendors will provide a selection of food including vegetarian options, and the beer tent and entertainment and food court are well covered, ensuring a comfortable experience come rain or shine.

Tickets are available online at www.alesfortails.co.za or from the various co-sponsors Tops liquor stores at Mount Edgecombe, Glenore, Umhlanga, Gateway, Riverside, Ridge and Eastmans.

Early bird drinking tickets are R125 and include an event-branded glass for the craft beverages that will cost on average R30 for a glass. Half glass portions allow attendees to taste a larger variety over the day. Drinking tickets are limited and might be sold for R200 each at the gate, should any be left over.

This year a small VIP section, limited to just four tables in a private area, is available for R1500 per table of 6 drinkers and includes the drinking ticket costs, branded glasses and a waiter. Those looking to secure great seating and skip the queues should book these ASAP.

Non-drinkers’ entry is R50. Tickets to the kids’ sections are direct from the Wavepark on the day at R90 or R40.

Regrettably no dogs will be allowed at this event and drinkers are not permitted to use the rides unless they pay for a separate pass.
