FRIENDS of Music will host its first recital of its 2018 series on Tuesday, 16 January at Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road from 7.30pm.
The recital will feature UK violinist, Miriam Kramer accompanied by pianist, Nicholas Durcan, also visiting from the UK.
Miriam Kramer began studying the violin at age four, giving her first public performance at the age of seven. Since then she has performed at venues such venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre, Kennedy Centre (USA) Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, St David’s, Queen Elizabeth Hall, (UK) and Theatre Champs Elysees (France).
Nicholas Durcan studied piano and organ at the Royal Academy of Music where he won many prizes. From 1980 to 1982 he was organist at Westminster Cathedral and in 1983 made his concerto debut at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. He performs regularly in the USA and has given solo and chamber music recitals in Sweden, Germany, Holland, France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Switzerland and Hong Kong. He is also an acclaimed jazz pianist and appears regularly with London’s top jazz musicians.

Their programme will include works by Béla Bartók, J S Bach, Edward Elgar, Robert Schumann, Astor Piazzolla, Ernest Bloch and Pablo de Sarasate.
Prelude performer is talented pianist and violinist Rachel Wedderburn-Maxwell, who is a 15-year-old learner at Durban Girls’ College.
She will perorm Mendelssohn’s Rondo and Capriccioso Op 14 on Piano and the Kreisler’s Praeludium and Allegro on Violin. Her accompanist is Molly Chen.
Tickets, which are available at the door, are R100 (members) and R120 (visitors).
