Farmers market adds festive appeal to trail event

The STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure on the first weekend in December will host 60 stalls for tenants at the Shongweni Farmers’ Market.

THE steady flow of entries for the STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure at Summerveld Estate on Sunday 3 December reflects not only the popularity of the various trail running and mountain biking events but the now well established interest in the unique Sunday edition of the famous Shongweni Farmers’ Market.

Having significantly expanded in size since its relocation to its current venue overlooking Shongweni Dam, the market has become a hugely popular Saturday morning destination for market fans from across the province.

The STIHL Sharks Trail Adventure on the first weekend in December will host 60 stalls for tenants at the Shongweni Farmers’ Market set up in the shady estate close to the Summerveld horse racing centre and jockey academy, making a huge variety of food and craft stalls available to families keen to make the most of the first weekend of the holidays.

Sure to attract the crowds are the trendy craft beer and gin stalls, offering their artisanal beverages for sale as well as making handy shopping for Christmas gifts.

With many members of the Cell C Sharks squad in attendance, including their iconic mascot Sharkie, the day is geared around connecting with families and friends.

Live music will add to the vibe of the occasion as riders and runners relax after their races, ranging from the 9km and 18km trail runs to 10km, 20km and 40km mountain bike races all before the light-hearted Sharkie Fun Ride for the kids and their supporters.

Entry for the various events is now open via the ROAG website www.roag.co.za.
