Wine, beer and song as sailors host OktoberFest

Adding to the festivities both Currie Cup semi-finals will be screened.

SAILORS and beer have been a historically good combination going back eons, and this Saturday, in the spirit of things, the Point Yacht Club will host an OktoberFest.

The club’s legendary resident chef, Chef Markus Bänziger, will share his ‘Swiss-German’ roots, organising a German themed menu that includes Cervelat, Bockwurst, Eisbein, Fleischkäse and Bratwurst all served with Chef’s very own Swiss style Rösti Potato or his fabulous Sauerkraut.

Or if you prefer to only have a nibble, an OktoberFest favourite is the beer pretzel.

Coinciding with the Jonsson Cup Pursuit Race, the German inspired ‘folk festival’ will take place at the harbour based club. Dishing up some of Durban’s finest liquid refreshments is multiple award winning, home grown talents: Robsons Real Beer Brewery and Distillery 031.

Joining the local crafters, leading wine and spirit producers, KWV South Africa Limited will add a handful of their well-crafted and extraordinary wines to the mix. With the title of The World’s Most Admired Wine

Getting everyone in the mood will be Durban’s Don Seagreen. This published poet and prolific songwriter has a string of awards to his name, and has graced the stage at Splashy Fen’s and the Durban International Blues Festival.

Adding to the festivities and not neglecting the land loving sports fans, Charlies Bar will be screening both Currie Cup semi-finals. Entry is R30 per person, payable at the door. Drinks and food will be for your own account.

Parking is available at the Point Yacht Club’s parking, secure parking fee of R15 will apply for non-members.

The festivities kick off at 2pm on Saturday, 21 October.
