Music and laughter at UKZN

Enjoy good comedy and music at the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music next week.

THE Centre for Jazz and Popular Music will host two events next week.

Enjoy the third outtake of Jokes and Jazz on Tuesday 22 August at 6pm. This is SA’s premier comedy and jazz mashup series.

Host will be Mo Vawda, considered one of the best of the new generation of Durban comedians. Whether sharing hilarious stories about being a doctor (in statistics!), married life, living in South Africa, or travelling abroad, this proudly South African and Muslim man is fast becoming a household name.

Warm up acts will be Kamz Govender, Bob Perfect and Kwanda Radebe and headliner will be Troy Tesla, who raises the stakes with original material based on his experiences as a world-travelling African male. Tesla will tackle some touchy controversial topics as he films his trial one man show: African.

On the tunes will be UKZN Music Students comic musical experiment and headliner versatile vocalist Thulile Zama, who will perform a wide repertoire that ranges from jazz to covers, to afro.

The second event is the Guitar Showcase on Wednesday 23 August at 6pm.

This show will feature the Jazz guitar faculty and students of UKZN presenting works by and some originals by Demi Fernandez, Nick Pitman and Josh Swanson.

Contact Thuli on 031 2603385 or email Zamat1@ukzn.ac.za for more details on ticket prices and booking.
