They will be playing original compositions, which will also be featured on their forthcoming album.

FRESH from their successful stint at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, the Phumlani Mtiti Trio bring their original composition to The Jazzy Rainbow this Saturday.

Originally from Port Elizabeth, Mtiti is a young, up-and-coming saxophonist who now lives in Durban. He started playing saxophone at a young age and is studying at UKZN, fine tuning his craft. Through his participation in various initiatives, Phumlani has been privileged to attend many master classes and has also performed with many of our local jazz legends including Sibongile Khumalo, Gloria Bosman, Winston Mankunku Ngozi, Feya Faku and McCoy Mrubata.

The trio is completed by bassist Dalisu Ndlazi and Zolani Rafuza on drums. They will be playing original compositions, which will also be featured on their forthcoming album. Doors open at 7pm and the entrance fee is R40 including a free drink to students. Bookings can also be done via the phone 031-3038398 or email jazzyrainbow@mweb.co.za. The Jazzy Rainbow is at 93 Smiso Nkwanyana Road, Morningside.
