Musical variety at Duigan recital

The concert will bring together popular melodies from the world of opera, classic musicals and the world’s popular stages.

BARITONE, Federico Freschi, and pianist, Christopher Duigan, will perform The Songs You Love, at 7.30 pm on Thursday, 27 July at St Agnes Church in Kloof.

The concert will bring together popular melodies from the world of opera, classic musicals and the world’s popular stages. The programme includes numbers from Carmen, Marriage of Figaro, My Fair Lady, Neapolitan songs including O sole mio, and celebrated numbers from Cole Porter, Edith Piaf and others.

Since returning to Johannesburg, Freschi has performed several roles, including Germont in La Traviata, Marcello in La Bohème, Dr Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Danilo in The Merry Widow, and Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de Perles, amongst others. He is currently executive dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Johannesburg and maintains a regular concert schedule in collaboration with Duigan.

Duigan is widely regarded as one of South Africa’s most leading concert pianists and has performed extensively with all leading orchestras in the country, including the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic, Cape Philharmonic and Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestras.

In recital he has achieved a popular following through his innovative presentation and programming featuring a broad and eclectic taste in music.
