Musicians invited to join Corobrik Orchestra concert

All participants must be able to read and play music.

ALL aspirant orchestral musicians and music lovers are encouraged to be a part of the highly popular Corobrik Orchestra concert, presented by the British Cultural and Heritage Association (BCHA), on Sunday 20 August in Durban.

Always a red-letter date for musicians and music-lovers in and around Durban to diarise, the BCHA presents an exciting programme of music-making in their eagerly awaited Corobrik Orchestra 2017 project. As previously, this will see a massed ad hoc orchestra performing under the baton of South African conductor, Richard Cock, for many years a leading role-player on our national music scene. The annual event includes the participation of Bryan Clark’s Marimba and the Steel Drum players.

Corobrik Orchestra 2017 will be held in Penzance School’s Nkulisa Conference Centre, 61 Penzance Road, Glenwood, starting at 2.30pm. Preceding this, a massed orchestra rehearsal will be held at the venue between 11am and 2pm. As a curtain-raiser to the main concert, members of Bryan Clark’s Marimba group and Steel Drum players will show their paces, entertaining the audience between 2pm and 2.30pm.

All participants must be able to read and play music. They are required to pay an entry fee of R60, and to register to play either as individuals or as part of a group.

Participants are encouraged to register well in advance of the event, as they must be as conversant as possible with the prescribed music. To register call 031 202 6174 or email bcha1820@global.co.za. Secure parking is available for participants and audience members alike. Seating is unreserved and tickets (R50 per person) will be sold at the door.
