French strengthen ties with SA

The French Barbarians rugby team played against South Africa A and met with young South Africans in Durban.

THE opportunity for the French Barbarians rugby team to play against South Africa A in Durban on Friday, enabled the two countries to strengthen and deepen sports cooperation, and for the French network to reach out to the South African public.

The Barbarians extended their support to young South Africans with a passion for rugby by visiting Glenwood High School on Wednesday 14 June where talented youth from emerging communities were invited to spend a morning coaching session to exchange knowledge, skills and ideas. Cell C Sharks players were also present.

The Sharks COO, Eduard Coetzee said: “The Sharks congratulate the Sport for Social Change Network and the French Barbarians for undertaking this exciting social upliftment initiative during their tour. The young players who were involved certainly gained valuable knowledge and tips from some of the most skillful and well-known names in the game.”

On the same day, Ambassador of France to South Africa, Christophe Farnaud, hosted a reception at the Alliance Française de Durban in honour of the Barbarians, the South African A Team, the XV de France and the Springboks. All members of the South African A Team and the Barbarians were present, as well as representatives of the Sharks, the eThekwini municipality and of the French Rugby Federation.
