Youth leaders launch drive to collect food packs

The Democratic Alliance youth have started a campaign to help provide boys from a home in ward 31 with packs to go home with during the school holidays.

FOOD packs, warm clothing and blankets are being collected for a boys home in Durban by youth leaders of the Democratic Alliance.

According to Deelyn Howell, one of the youth leaders, the group launched the campaign to help provide boys from a home in ward 31 with food packs to go home with during the school holidays.

“As it is Youth Month, we decided on this drive for the needy and are requesting assistance from the public to donate non-perishable food items, warm clothing and blankets so the boys don’t go home to their families empty handed, and are able to stay a length of time at home. It has proven this helps to lift the spirits of the boys as well,” said Deelyn.

Items such as rice, sugar, teabags, dry beans, mealie meal and canned foods are needed.

“We are not asking for much, even if each person donates one item, it will all add up and make a difference,” he said.

The collection will run until 25 June. The group will collect items. For donations, contact Deelyn (Sydenham and Asherville areas) on 074 666 1400 or Nazneen (Musgrave and Overport areas) on 083 987 8605.
