Indian dance festival

The festival aims to afford audiences an opportunity to experience art of the highest calibre.

A festival of classical music and dance, Sankalp, takes place at the Thekwini College auditorium, Daintree Avenue, Asherville on 27 May at 5.30pm.

Under the artistic direction of Durban-based Kathak artist, Manesh Maharaj, and currently the only festival of its kind in South Africa, Sankalp showcases the solo artist and aims to raise the standard of the Indian classical performing arts. The highlight of this year’s festival is the launch of an all-male classical Indian dance ensemble titled Purusham.

The festival aims to afford audiences an opportunity to experience art of the highest calibre. It will also serve to present students with a platform to develop and perform as soloists, reflecting the root and essence of the Indian classical performing arts.
