Jogger resuscitated on beachfront

"The early intervention with CPR from lifeguards definitely was a big contributing factor to the successful outcome of this case."

A MAN was resuscitated on the Durban beachfront on Tuesday afternoon after he collapsed while jogging.

According to Chris Botha from Netcare 911, reports from the scene indicate that the 45-year-old jogger was spotted by lifeguards clenching his chest before collapsing.

“Early CPR was started by the lifeguards, and when paramedics arrived they took over the resuscitation. A City Med advanced life support paramedic assisted the Netcare 911 ambulance crews with the resuscitation that lasted around 45 minutes,” he said.

Botha said there was great relief when the man’s heart started beating again. He was transported to hospital.

“The early intervention with CPR from lifeguards definitely was a big contributing factor to the successful outcome of this case,” said Botha.
