Siblings to perform at Friends recital

Award-winning brother and sister duo will perform at the next Friends of Music recital in Durban.

THE next Friends of Music recital is on Wednesday, 15 March at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 KE Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban at 7.30pm.

Andrey Baranov, a winner of the Queen Elizabeth International Violin Competition, will be one of the performers on the night. He is also a winner of Benjaman Britten and Henri Marteau International competitions and a prize winner of more than 20 other International Competitions including Indianapelis, Seoul, Sendai, Isakadze, David Oistrach, Paganini (Moscow) International Competitions. He is also the first Violinst of David Oistrakh’s Quartet.

Andrey will be accompanied by his sister, Maria Baranov, who is a prizewinner of the Russian Mazur competition for ensembles, and is the winner in the International Duo Compititions with her brother.

Prelude performer will be 15-year-old violinist, Leila Poona, a learner at Crawford College La Lucia. She was inspired by her father who was also a violinist. She loves the instrument as she finds she can express her emotions through its beautiful melodic sounds. Her accompanist is Liezl Maret Jacobs.
