Weekend movie roundup

Movie lovers are spoilt for choice with this weekend's new movie releases.

THE weather may be grey outside and monstrous waves chasing us off the beach, but local cinemas have a great selection of new releases on offer this weekend. So grab the popcorn and check out what’s showing at a cinema near you this weekend.

Café Society

Set in the 1930s, Bobby, a young man from the Bronx finds himself in Hollywood with a little help from his powerful uncle Phil, an agent to the likes of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. He meets and falls for Vonnie, his uncle’s beautiful secretary, before returning to New York where he immerses himself in the razzle-dazzle of high society night club life.

The Girl on the Train

 

Rachel’s still getting over a painful divorce, which she’s reminded of every day she passes her old house on a train to work in New York City. Trying to shift her focus, she starts watching a couple a few houses down, creating a dream life for Megan and Scott. After witnessing a shocking incident only to wake up, battered and suffering from a horrible hangover, she discovers Megan is missing and takes it upon herself to find out what actually happened.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children

A 16-year-old boy named Jacob Portman discovers clues to a mystery that spans worlds and times when he begins working for a woman named Miss Peregrine at a home on a mysterious island. Helping and getting to know the group of peculiar, orphaned children imbued with strange powers and traits, he soon learns of the horrible creatures, who are out to destroy them.
