Shisa nyama sizzles in Durban this heritage weekend

A SA first for the city by the sea is the Shisa Nyama Festival which takes place on 25 September.

THIS heritage weekend brings you the smokiest, flame grilled event, when the very first Shisa Nyama Festival lands at People’s Park East, Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, 25 September.

Seven of the KZN’s most legendary open-flame chefs stoke the coals side-by-side, offering visitors eKasi cuisine in South Africa’s biggest shisanyama spectacle. Finalists in the Shisa Nyama Awards are lined up to cook, from Eyadini Lounge, Max’s Lifestyle, Café Skyzer, One and Only, Sbu’s Lounge and Tate’s Kasi Grill. Spiced brisket, t-bone and chicken wings will fill hungry tummies, along with side dishes like chakalaka, pap and ujeqe.

Join the biggest communal dining sit-down held at People’s Park East, Moses Mabhida. Take your spot at one of the 350 tables and wooden benches to experience a festival unique to SA. Alongside a VIP tent that includes pop-up store by legenday fashion designer Makhosa by Laduma.

Adjacent to the sizzle, a full stage hosts big home town acts. Local stars The Dream Team proudly sponsored by Bluff Meat Supply, Veranda Panda and Holly Wasserfall, as well as a crew of Durban’s hottest DJs, to create the soundtrack of an unforgettable get-together. And finally a market will feature fashion, accessories and crafts from the city’s hottest young designers on the rise, Snerry Online, GlamDiva, and more.
