Classic children’s story takes to the stage

AA Milne's classic, Winnie the Pooh, will be staged at Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre this July.

DON'T miss Kickstart's Winnie the Pooh over the July school holidays – a colourful and faithful adaptation of AA Milne’s classic children’s story.

The show takes place at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on UKZN campus from 30 June to 17 July, with performances at 2.30pm Tuesday to Sunday and 7pm on Friday.

Winnie the Pooh is an enchanting, episodic retelling of AA Milne’s classic and widely loved stories of Christopher Robin and his loveable menagerie of colourful animal friends and their adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood.

Winnie the Pooh stars Rowan Bartlett as the much-beloved bear, and Belinda Henwood as his nervous side-kick, Piglet. Others in the cast include Liesl Coppin as bossy but motherly Kanga, and Luca Tarboton (Annie in KickstArt’s 2014 production of Annie) as her mischievous off-spring, Roo. Bryan Hiles plays Tigger, Roo’s bouncy partner in crime, and Nhlakanipho Manqele plays all-knowing Owl, with Anthony Stonier as ever-efficient Rabbit. Peter Court plays doleful donkey Eeyore, and also directs this production. Set and costume design is by Greg King.

The cast is joined by an ensemble of talented children: Christopher Robin is played jointly by Ivan Williams and Jake Savage. Alexander Beetle is Keryn Lynne Scott, the squirrels are Grace McIlroy and Sarah Sparks and the rabbits are Julia Sutton and Jordyn Everett.

No babes in arms, or children under three.

Tickets are R180/R150/R120 for adults and R150/R120/R100 for children and pensioners. Book at Computicket: www.computicket.co.za
