Suspect killed in home invasion

A suspect was shot and killed in an home invasion in Sydenham on Monday evening.

POLICE are still searching for the four men who shot at and tried to rob a Sydenham family on Monday night. One of the men was killed when the owner of the home, returned fire.

According to police spokesman Capt Thulani Zwane, the four men, armed with guns and a pick axe stormed into the house and demanded the family give them money. The homeowner was able to reach for his firearm and fired at the thugs who returned fire.

One of the men was fatally wounded and a woman, believed to be the wife of the homeowner, was also wounded and is recovering.

“The suspects fled the scene in their own getaway vehicle, a Mercedez Benz. It was parked outside the yard. A case of murder as well as house robbery was  opened as well as an inquest at the Sydenham Police Station for further investigation,” said Zwane.
